Settings & System Tray

Configure Braking Lab Capture preferences, system tray behavior, and automatic updates.

Capture offers several settings to customize your experience, plus a system tray integration for background operation.

Settings Panel

Access settings from the main window. Available options:

Language

Choose your preferred language:

  • English
  • Espa\u00f1ol (Spanish)

The language change applies immediately to the entire interface.

Automation

Control how Capture handles new telemetry files:

SettingDescriptionRecommended
Auto-processAutomatically parse new .ibt files when detectedOn
Auto-syncAutomatically upload processed data to the cloudOn

With both enabled, Capture works entirely hands-free.

Startup

Configure how Capture behaves at boot:

SettingDescription
Start with WindowsLaunch Capture automatically when Windows starts
Start minimizedOpen directly to the system tray instead of showing the window

For a seamless experience, enable both — Capture will start silently and capture telemetry whenever you race.

System Tray

When minimized, Capture lives in your Windows system tray (notification area near the clock).

Tray Icon

The tray icon shows Capture’s current state. Right-click for the context menu.

Minimize to Tray

Click the close button (X) to minimize Capture to the system tray instead of quitting. This keeps it running in the background so it can capture telemetry while you race.

To fully quit, use Quit from the tray menu.

Automatic Updates

Capture checks for updates automatically:

  • On startup — Checks for a new version a few seconds after launch
  • Download — Updates download in the background
  • Install — Applied the next time you restart Capture

You can also check manually from the Settings panel. When an update is available, you’ll see a notification.

Version Information

The current version is displayed at the bottom of the Settings panel.

Developer Mode

A hidden feature for troubleshooting: triple-click the version number to toggle Developer Mode. When active, a “DEV” indicator appears next to the version. This mode is for internal diagnostics and doesn’t affect normal operation.

Account Management

From Settings, you can:

  • View your account — See which Braking Lab account is connected
  • Sign out — Clear credentials and disconnect from the cloud
  • Re-authenticate — If prompted, sign in again with the device code flow

Settings also provides shortcuts to:

  • Braking Lab website — Opens brakinglab.com
  • Dashboard — Opens the web app directly
  • Help — Opens the in-app help dialog with usage instructions
