Overlays

Widgets Braking Lab Capture draws over iRacing and Le Mans Ultimate. Scenes per session type, when they show, and how to place them over the sim.

Capture draws widgets over iRacing and Le Mans Ultimate while you drive. Open Overlays in the sidebar to set them up.

The widgets

WidgetWhat it shows
StandingsPositions, grouped by class
RelativeThe cars around you on track
FlagsAppears by itself when the sim shows a flag
PaceAverage, consistency and trend of your recent laps
Practice programmeThe stint you are driving and its verdict, while a programme runs in practice
Input traceThrottle, brake and more over time, with your pedals beside it
PedalsA bar per pedal, and a force feedback meter that turns amber while it clips

Pace and the practice programme count laps differently. Pace counts every clean lap of the stint. The practice programme counts clean laps in a row, so a track limit starts its count again. See Race Weekend for how a programme measures each stint.

The input trace and the pedals show what the car applies, not what your foot does, when the car publishes it (otherwise, your pedal). In the pit lane you see the limiter’s throttle.

Scenes

A scene is a set of widgets with their positions and settings. Each session type (practice, qualifying, race) uses one scene, and one scene can serve several session types. Each simulator has its own scenes.

Overlays in sim turns every overlay on or off. Your scenes stay saved either way, and you can still edit them with overlays off.

Run the sim in a borderless window

Overlays cannot draw over exclusive fullscreen. Set iRacing or Le Mans Ultimate to a borderless window. When the sim is in exclusive fullscreen, the status beside Overlays in sim asks you for a borderless window.

When they show

Overlays step aside when you are not driving:

  • In the garage: nothing shows.
  • Stopped in the box in practice or qualifying: only the practice programme stays, so you can read the stint’s verdict. The rest come back when you pull away.
  • On track, and during a pit stop in a race: every widget in the scene shows.

Place the widgets

You can place a scene in two places.

In the Studio. Open a scene and drag each widget on the preview. The preview plays sample data, not your session.

Over the sim. This puts the widgets on the real sim screen, so you see them where you will drive with them.

  1. In the Studio, press Place over the simulator.
  2. Go back to the sim within 15 seconds.
  3. Drag the widgets.
  4. Press Save positions.

From inside the game you can use Ctrl+Shift+O instead. The first press starts placing the scene your current session uses. The second press saves. Esc discards the changes.

Placing over the sim only works with overlays on and the sim in front. If you switch to another window while placing, placing ends. Positions you already saved stay.

Scenes from Ray

Ray, your Race Engineer, can suggest a scene. Nothing changes until you accept it. Press Open in editor in the chat to see his changes on the canvas first.
