Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions and answers about Braking Lab.

Find answers to the most common questions about Braking Lab.

General

What is Braking Lab?

Braking Lab is a web-based training application designed to help sim racers improve their braking technique. It uses real telemetry data to create personalized exercises that train brake point precision, trail braking, and pressure modulation.

Do I need special hardware?

You need a brake pedal that connects to your computer. Braking Lab works with most USB pedals through the browser’s Gamepad API. Load cell pedals provide the best experience, but any brake pedal will work.

Which browsers are supported?

Braking Lab works best on:

  • Chrome (recommended)
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Safari (limited Gamepad API support)

We recommend using Chrome or Edge for the best experience with pedal connectivity.

Is there a mobile app?

Braking Lab is a web application that runs in your browser. While it’s technically accessible on mobile devices, the full experience requires a connected brake pedal, making it primarily a desktop application.

Telemetry

What telemetry sources are supported?

Currently, Braking Lab integrates with:

  • Garage61 - Full integration with automatic session import
  • Manual import - Upload telemetry files directly

Support for additional sources is planned for future updates.

How do I connect Garage61?

  1. Go to Settings > Telemetry Sources
  2. Click “Connect Garage61”
  3. Log in to your Garage61 account
  4. Authorize Braking Lab to access your data
  5. Your sessions will appear in the Import section

Can I use telemetry from other games besides iRacing?

Currently, Braking Lab is optimized for iRacing telemetry through Garage61. Support for other simulators may be added in future updates.

How much telemetry data can I store?

Storage limits depend on your subscription plan. Free accounts include limited storage, while premium plans offer expanded storage for extensive telemetry libraries.

Exercises

How are exercises generated?

Exercises are created by analyzing your telemetry data:

  1. The app identifies braking zones on each track
  2. It extracts brake pressure curves and timing from reference laps
  3. Exercises are generated to help you match those patterns

Can I create my own exercises?

Yes! The Custom Exercises feature lets you create personalized exercises. You can specify target corners, set custom tolerance levels, and define your own training programs.

What’s the difference between difficulty levels?

DifficultyToleranceBest For
Easy±15 metersLearning new tracks
Medium±8 metersRegular practice
Hard±3 metersAdvanced precision
CustomUser-definedSpecific training goals

How does audio feedback work?

Audio feedback provides real-time sound cues during exercises. Different tones indicate whether you braked on time, early, or late. This allows you to focus on the screen while receiving immediate feedback through sound.

Account & Subscription

Do I need an account to use Braking Lab?

A free account is required to save your progress and access your telemetry. You can create an account using your email or sign in with Google.

What’s included in the free plan?

Free accounts include:

  • Basic exercise functionality
  • Limited telemetry storage
  • Progress tracking basics
  • Access to core features

What do premium plans offer?

Premium plans add:

  • Unlimited telemetry storage
  • Advanced analytics
  • Custom exercises
  • Brake Master full features
  • Priority support

How do I cancel my subscription?

The calibration seems off

Recalibrate your pedals:

  1. Go to Settings > Hardware > Pedals
  2. Click “Recalibrate”
  3. Follow the prompts to set minimum and maximum positions
  4. Adjust dead zones if needed

Exercises aren’t syncing with my telemetry

Ensure your:

  1. Telemetry data has completed importing (check status)
  2. Selected session contains valid lap data
  3. Reference lap doesn’t have significant off-track moments

The app is running slowly

Try:

  1. Close other browser tabs
  2. Disable browser extensions temporarily
  3. Clear the app cache in Settings > Data Management
  4. Use Chrome or Edge for best performance

Data & Privacy

Is my telemetry data private?

Yes. Your telemetry data is stored securely and is only used to generate your exercises. We never share your data with third parties or other users unless you explicitly choose to share.

Can I export my data?
