How the UM Audi R8 LMS GT3 Handles Braking
The Audi R8 LMS GT3 features a sophisticated brake system built around adjustable master cylinders and three pad compounds. Seven master cylinder sizes are available for both front and rear axles, ranging from 15.9mm to 23.8mm, allowing precise control over line pressure and brake bias characteristics. This flexibility means your in-car brake bias adjustment range will shift depending on your master cylinder configuration—smaller front cylinders increase baseline front bias, while larger rear cylinders do the same.
The car's ABS system offers twelve positions with ten distinct maps, with position 4 recommended as your baseline. Higher ABS settings provide more intervention and stability but can extend braking distances if set too aggressively for available grip. You'll want to experiment with ABS levels as track conditions evolve, particularly as tire temperatures build or grip deteriorates.
Braking performance is intimately connected to your suspension setup, especially camber. Increasing front negative camber improves mid-corner grip but reduces longitudinal braking force, requiring a rearward brake bias shift to compensate. Similarly, compression damping adjustments affect weight transfer speed during braking—higher compression damping accelerates weight shift forward, potentially improving initial bite but reducing overall front grip. Monitor tire temperatures across the tread to ensure your alignment choices aren't compromising braking performance.
Stop Guessing, Start Improving
Many drivers slam the brakes with all their strength, but the fastest modulate pressure, use the brake to rotate the car, and exit as fast as possible. Train that skill here.

3 Essential Setup Tips
Tip 1
Brake Bias
Brake bias controls front/rear brake force distribution. Start with 56-58% front for most cars. Engine placement matters: front-engine cars need more front bias (58-62%), mid-engine cars run balanced (54-58%), rear-engine cars need less (50-54%). Understeering under braking? Add 1-2% front bias. Rear feels loose in braking zones? Reduce front bias by 1-2%.
Tip 2
Know Your Car
Check if your car has ABS, traction control, or brake mapping. ABS allows later braking but can increase stopping distance—adjust activation threshold in setup. High-downforce cars brake later and harder at speed but lose grip quickly as downforce bleeds off. Low-downforce cars require earlier, progressive braking with more trail-braking to rotate.
Tip 3
Quick Fixes
Locking fronts frequently? Reduce front bias 1-2% or brake earlier with gradual pressure. Car won't turn in under braking? Increase front bias 1% and practice trail-braking deeper into corners. Rear unstable in braking zones? Reduce rear bias or use smoother pedal release.
