How the Porsche 963 GTP Handles Braking
The Porsche 963 GTP features a sophisticated brake system with extensive adjustability to match driver preference and track demands. Three brake pad compounds offer distinct friction levels—Low provides the best modulation for precise trail-braking, while Medium and High deliver stronger bite at the cost of increased lock-up risk. The brake bias system includes both a base Brake Pressure Bias and an in-car adjustable Target offset (±0.5% per click), plus Brake Bias Migration that shifts bias forward or rearward with pedal travel. Master cylinder sizing on both axles allows fundamental pressure adjustments, with larger cylinders reducing line pressure and smaller ones increasing it. This comprehensive toolkit enables drivers to fine-tune braking response across different corner types and fuel loads.
Setup strategy centers on finding the optimal bias window for your driving style. Start with the baseline bias setting and use the Target adjustment during sessions to compensate for fuel burn and tire wear. Brake Bias Migration is particularly useful for prototype cars—positive values shift bias forward with pedal travel, helping stabilize the car under heavy braking while maintaining rear balance for initial bite. Pay close attention to the LED lockup indicators on both cockpit sides: they illuminate to show which wheel is locking and how severely. Use this real-time feedback to refine your bias settings and modulate brake pressure more effectively through high-speed zones.
Stop Guessing, Start Improving
Many drivers slam the brakes with all their strength, but the fastest modulate pressure, use the brake to rotate the car, and exit as fast as possible. Train that skill here.

3 Essential Setup Tips
Tip 1
Brake Bias
Brake bias controls front/rear brake force distribution. Start with 56-58% front for most cars. Engine placement matters: front-engine cars need more front bias (58-62%), mid-engine cars run balanced (54-58%), rear-engine cars need less (50-54%). Understeering under braking? Add 1-2% front bias. Rear feels loose in braking zones? Reduce front bias by 1-2%.
Tip 2
Know Your Car
Check if your car has ABS, traction control, or brake mapping. ABS allows later braking but can increase stopping distance—adjust activation threshold in setup. High-downforce cars brake later and harder at speed but lose grip quickly as downforce bleeds off. Low-downforce cars require earlier, progressive braking with more trail-braking to rotate.
Tip 3
Quick Fixes
Locking fronts frequently? Reduce front bias 1-2% or brake earlier with gradual pressure. Car won't turn in under braking? Increase front bias 1% and practice trail-braking deeper into corners. Rear unstable in braking zones? Reduce rear bias or use smoother pedal release.
