How the Acura ARX 06 GTP Handles Braking
The Acura ARX-06 GTP features a sophisticated braking system with adjustable brake pad compounds (Low/Medium/High), independent front and rear master cylinder sizing, and in-car brake bias adjustment via the steering wheel display. The brake lockup LED indicators provide real-time visual feedback: pink lights show front wheel lockup severity, while yellow lights indicate rear lockup, helping you identify bias issues immediately. Three pad compounds offer distinct trade-offs—Low provides maximum modulation but requires deeper braking zones, Medium balances bite and control, while High delivers aggressive initial bite at the cost of easier lockups.
Brake bias setup depends heavily on aerodynamic configuration and track characteristics. High downforce setups can run more rearward bias (lower than 50%) since aero load keeps the rear planted under braking, while low downforce configurations at tracks like Le Mans require more front bias to prevent rear instability. Master cylinder sizing provides coarse adjustment—smaller front cylinders shift bias forward and reduce pedal effort to lock fronts, while rear cylinder changes work inversely.
The car's heave dampers significantly influence braking stability, particularly low-speed compression settings. Higher front compression stiffens the platform under braking but can induce understeer at turn-in, while softer settings improve mechanical grip but may destabilize the aero platform. Remember that the hybrid system's regenerative braking affects brake feel and balance—expect subtle variations in pedal response as the MGU harvests energy during deceleration phases.
Stop Guessing, Start Improving
Many drivers slam the brakes with all their strength, but the fastest modulate pressure, use the brake to rotate the car, and exit as fast as possible. Train that skill here.

3 Essential Setup Tips
Tip 1
Brake Bias
Brake bias controls front/rear brake force distribution. Start with 56-58% front for most cars. Engine placement matters: front-engine cars need more front bias (58-62%), mid-engine cars run balanced (54-58%), rear-engine cars need less (50-54%). Understeering under braking? Add 1-2% front bias. Rear feels loose in braking zones? Reduce front bias by 1-2%.
Tip 2
Know Your Car
Check if your car has ABS, traction control, or brake mapping. ABS allows later braking but can increase stopping distance—adjust activation threshold in setup. High-downforce cars brake later and harder at speed but lose grip quickly as downforce bleeds off. Low-downforce cars require earlier, progressive braking with more trail-braking to rotate.
Tip 3
Quick Fixes
Locking fronts frequently? Reduce front bias 1-2% or brake earlier with gradual pressure. Car won't turn in under braking? Increase front bias 1% and practice trail-braking deeper into corners. Rear unstable in braking zones? Reduce rear bias or use smoother pedal release.
