# iRacing Setup

> Turn on iRacing's telemetry export so Braking Lab Capture can process your laps, and check or change the telemetry folder in Settings.

Capture needs iRacing's telemetry export turned on. This is a one-time setup that takes under a minute.

## Enabling Automatic Telemetry

1. **Open iRacing** and go to the main menu
2. Navigate to **Options**
3. Find the **Misc** section
4. Look for **"Save telemetry data to disk"** or **"Automatic Telemetry"**
5. **Enable it** (check the box or toggle it on)
6. Click **Apply** or **OK**

From now on, iRacing saves your telemetry after every session.

## Checking the Folder in Capture

During the first-run setup, Capture looks for the iRacing telemetry folder:

- **Detected** — Capture found the folder
- **The sim isn't saving telemetry** — Turn on the export in iRacing's options and come back
- If Capture cannot find the folder, click **Choose folder** and pick it yourself

After setup, the folder lives in **Settings → Capture → Simulators**. The row shows **Detected** or **Folder missing**. Use **Change** to pick another folder, or **Use default folder** to go back to the default. A new folder works straight away, without a restart.

## Large or Cloud-Synced Folders

Capture does not open every `.ibt` file to list the folder. It only reads files that are new or changed. If your Documents folder syncs with OneDrive, OneDrive does not have to download your old files.

## Session Times

Capture 1.4.0 fixes a time zone error. Earlier versions read your local time as if it were UTC, so iRacing sessions were off by your time zone. Capture corrects sessions already stored in the background, a few at a time. You may see some upload activity after you update.

## Common Issues

### No Files Appearing

1. **Check that telemetry is enabled** in iRacing Options > Misc
2. **Complete a session** — iRacing only saves the file when the session ends
3. **Check if Capture is paused** — The Queue on Home shows **Resume Capture** while Capture is paused

### Wrong Folder Detected

1. Run iRacing at least once. It creates the default folder on first run
2. If you moved your Documents folder, iRacing may still use the original path
3. Pick the right folder in **Settings → Capture → Simulators**

## Tips

- **Leave telemetry enabled** — Capture handles every file
- **Run a short test session** after you enable telemetry, to confirm that files appear
